Charging Animation

Samsung's charging feedback for One UI 7 and beyond. The work shaped how Galaxy phones, watches, and foldables communicate power — through a contextual pill that follows screen state, scales across every form factor, and leaves the center of the screen to the user.

Charging Pill

Charging is no longer a full-screen event. The redesign distills it into a single pill — small, dim, and present only when needed. Everything the user needs to know is carried by the pill's shape, color, and position alone.

Contextual Placement

Screen state determines where the pill appears. On Power-off, AOD, Lock, and Home, it sits at the Now Bar — dimmed for dark rooms. On the home screen, the status bar battery indicator expands sideways. Each placement keeps the user's gaze free.

Speed Colors

Three colors encode charging speed: green for standard, mint for fast, and blue for super fast. The pill fills with color as the battery climbs, working as both indicator and progress bar. At a glance, the user sees how the device is charging — and how fast.

Cross-Device

The same pill scales across the Galaxy lineup. Phone status bar, Galaxy Watch, Z Flip cover screen, Z Fold inner display — each adapts the geometry to its own proportions and viewing distance, while sharing one motion language across the ecosystem.

Cross-Version Continuity

Introduced with One UI 7 in 2025, the charging behavior continues across One UI 8, 8.5, and beyond — sharing the context-aware, distraction-free principles One UI later formalized as Ambient Design. The system was built to outlast a single version.
